Tried rendering the wings more, but ended up being clueless. So I searched up a tutorial by YuChengHong and found it to be helpful. They start from colouring the darker parts of the wings and work their way up to the details and lights.
Just as I was about to repaint the whole piece, I decided to give gradient map one more try. First, I applied a warm yellow-toned gradient map as the foundation. Then, selected and separated parts with different colours. By doing that, it allowed me to assign different gradient maps to each element easily.
Even if I succeeded colouring most of the piece, I struggled colouring the clouds with gradient map. Then I used the ball technique, but it seemed like the tone of the clouds are too warm. As it resembled more of a sunset scene rather than a sunrise. In the end, I manually recoloured the cloud, possibly because of its bright values that didn’t sit right with gradient map.

Feedback: More reflective light. (like the grass) -Luca Risino
Although the changes were minor, I applied a slight green tone on the church’s wall on the second island.
Reflecting on Mabille’s works (2024), I noticed that he used one final colour to pull the audience’s attention and that’s the deep saturated blue cape. Something that is so out-of-place has been intentionally added and I feel like my concept art is missing that touch. Hence, I implemented bright red flowers surrounding the statue to direct attention solely to that island, particularly to the statue itself.

Presentation
Our final task in the 2D unit was to make a presentation outlining our process. With a limit of 5 slides, I had to shorten the information and focus on the important parts only, for instance, the themes and context, pictures of primary research, mood board with secondary research, thumbnails progress, and the final piece.
The presentation was nerve-wracking. Despite practicing beforehand, my mind blanked out when I got to the front. Next time, I will try writing down key points on a small piece of paper and bring it with me during presentations. With that the 2D unit comes to an end.
